Where to Go
Deciding Where to Go During the Day
You'll find an English summary of what's on in each of the official venues in the daily programme - Rhaglen y Dydd
Y Pafiliwn - The Pavilion
This is where most competitions are held. It is also the venue for choral and orchestral concerts, pageants and ceremonies. The main ceremonies are on the Monday afternoon (Y Coroni - The Crowning of the Bard) and the Friday afternoon (Y Cadeirio - The Chairing of the Bard). The Brass Bands are on the first Saturday and Sunday, the Male Voice Choirs are on the final Saturday and the Blue Riband singing competitions are on the Thursday and Friday evenings.
The ceremonies are wonderful – full of colour and emotion. Everyone should see at least one! They are, however, quite long, so it may be a good idea not to take very young children.
Translation equipment is available for the main events. Ask one of the Acen Yma i Helpu staff.
Maes D - The Welsh Learners' Centre
The centre for those who are learning or who wish to learn Welsh. Information and advice, talks, discussions, practice sessions and entertainment are offered daily. You’ll see signs for ‘Maes D’ and ‘Dysgwyr’.Arddangosfa Gwyddoniaeth a Thechnoleg – Science and Technology Exhibition
The latest science and technology developments are displayed along with a varied programme of activities ranging from lectures to competitions. This is a very 'hands on' place and children and young people (and anyone with an enquiring mind) will love it.
Arddangosfa Celfyddydau Gweledol – The Visual Arts Exhibition
The largest art and crafts exhibition in the country and the most popular annual event of its kind. It includes fine arts, sculpture, ceramics, photography, wood carving, embroidery, fashion and school projects.
Y Stiwdio Ddawns - The Dance Studio
This pavilion houses a variety of dance events – from salsa to traditional Welsh dance.
Theatr Fach y Maes - The Eisteddfod Theatre
This is a modern structure housing all the requirements of a theatre. Plays, children’s entertainment, drama workshops, face painting, fashion shows, puppet shows and adjudications are held here.
Y Babell Lên - The Literature Pavilion
A centre for those interested in Welsh literature and bardic contests.
